Fuori campo
Out of Frame
Out of Frame, reflects on that which remains on the margins of the image and the official narrative. The concept of ‘off-screen’ refers not only to the invisible, but also to everything that has been systematically distorted and displaced to uphold hegemonic cultural narratives. The installation invites the viewer to question their own cultural heritage, showing how the colonial imagination continues to operate in the present, infiltrating everyday gestures, national imaginaries and seemingly neutral forms of representation.
The video, created using film footage sourced exclusively from the Luce Archive — the principal visual apparatus of 20th-century Italian fascist propaganda — explores the representation of the colonized subject, continually distorted until they become invisible under the weight of imposed categories. This disappearance is presented simultaneously as an absence and as an excess of representation.
